Who are you calling…

I was reading and listened to a news report that read, “Obama sorry for sweetie comment”.

WTH! This is ridiculous.

How sensitive are we? I can think of many things that I could say that would be offensive to someone than “Sweetie”. Perhaps, I could say what Bush said during his last campaign to a reporter when he whispered to Cheney, “that guy is a major asshole”. What about just using (what we will soon hear more of from the G.O.P. during the General Election, although in somewhat subtle undertones) some derogatory racial or gender characterization.

Using the phrase “Sweetie” is not offensive. I’ve been called a lot of things in my life and in comments on this blog. I’m sure you have been called some terrible things in your life too. The question is what answer to? Evaluate what a person is saying by the context that they are saying it in before getting “up in arms” and offended.

If I was offended by the things that my co-workers, neighbors and even family or friends say, I would be upset all the time.

Regardless of what some may think, I’m not an angry Black man, nor do I think that you’re an angry __________ man or woman. But you wouldn’t know that unless you first evaluate the context of what is being said. Just as I believe you’re doing now by reading this blog.

I guess a better way of putting it is, judge me by the content of my character.

I have more to say, but I’ll save that for later. Thanks for reading Sweetie.

Obama/Edwards ‘08

Could it be. John Edwards. I only see one more big endorsement left. Perhaps I need to drive out to Belle Meade (An Exclusive Residential Area of Nashville, TN) and ask our friend Al Gore what’s the hold up since we live in the same city.
