Love Always Wins Over Hate

Sometimes all you need to do is just keep doing what’s right and move forward. Hate will never overcome love. Over the years I’ve had quite a few people to ignore all my warnings about their behaviors, perceptions and language. Awhile ago I left them to their own devices and moved forward and allowed time and history to be their judge, not me.

No weapon formed against you will prosper when you’re focused on what’s considerate of the least of these. Your words and actions will always be a hinderance to you when they’re filled with hate, vile and inconsideration.

Therefore I offer my sincerest congratulations to President Barack Obama on his successful governance and re-election. I stood with you on Saturday, February 15, 2007 when you first announce your intentions to run for president and haven’t waiver since. Lets keep moving forward and leave those behind who are unwilling to move.

Drill Baby Drill

When I think about what is going on with this recent oil spill in the Gulf it makes me mad, because with each image that’s reported on, what I see is the image of Republicans at the 2008 Republican National Convention chanting, “Drill Baby Drill”.

When I listen to the reports and updates about how it can be stopped, all I hear is the GOP’s rallying call of “Drill Baby Drill”.

When you watch the slow destruction of so much by the careless and inconsiderate hands of people who are hell bent on fewer regulations, you have to wonder what they were thinking.


It’s as if they’re just lost and simply don’t get it.

You listen to the Republican echo chamber of excuses and talking points, while in the back of your mind you hear the chant, “Drill Baby Drill”. You see the faces of Conservatives chanting “Drill Baby Drill”.

You imagine what could have been if they would have won.

The chant may have been “Drill Baby Drill”, but if the environment and ocean creatures could talk, I bet the chant would have been “Kill Baby Kill.”

You can vote for whomever you wish, but consider who and what you’re voting for when you do. Many Republicans want to blame everyone else for the problems than address their own problems and the ones they’ve caused. What you don’t know can destroy you. What you don’t know may also benefit you, but it won’t happen until you consider others beyond yourself or your own narrow understanding.

You may not believe anything is wrong, but again, what you fail to understand is what will destroy you. The more you continue to ruin the world, the more of it will eventually ruin you. It may not be in your backyard today, but one day it just may. Today I believe there are some who knows that to be true, because it’s in their backyard essentially. They breath the same air we pollute. They drink and live in the same water we contaminate. And for what reason do we do all of this?

Our greed, recklessness and lack of consideration for others beyond ourselves, that’s why. For a quart of oil and a gallon of gas.
Go ahead a continue your chant.
Yeah, I hear ya. Country First. Drill, Baby, Drill.


A Message for Democrats Only

My Fellow Democrats,

What is your problem?

Seriously, what is your problem? You’ve spent more time accommodating than legislating.

Who are you trying to please? Ben Nelson, Joe Lieberman or some other weak minded Democrat. Each time you do this you do the Republicans a favor by contributing to an unintentional bipartisan effort of defeating true progress, yourself and the American people.

Instead of concerning yourself with how many votes you have for any given policy and constantly reacting to the non-sense Republicans are committed to and do the work the majority of the America people voted for you to do.

When the policy is practical and works to solve or remedy something, there isn’t much Republicans will be able to throw at it to derail or skew it. Yes, I know they will absolutely try, but that’s when you speak openly, concisely and boldly first to the American people. Then you address the misconceptions and deliberate lies promoted by Republicans, FOX News and their allies.

When will you stop playing the political games? When will the partisan bickering end? Perhaps when you become the Republican Party or what it is today, except with a (D) behind your name.

This is not the way to win an election if that’s the name of the game. You win the election by constructing, proposing and promoting policies for We The People, not We The Democrats and not We The Republicans. This is the problem in our political environment today. Many seek to be elected as if it is the American dream, while Americans live a nightmare. Country First, No. Party First, Politics Second, Lobbyist Third, Big Business Fourth and Americans last.

You may win election by lying and scheming, misleading voters and yourself. But for how long can your integrity stand for it?

Haven’t you learned anything from Republican mistakes? Haven’t we suffered enough at the hands of Republican policies? Yes, but now it continues to a lesser degree by a different name.

We diligently worked to get Barack Obama elected President. We tirelessly campaigned and supported Democrats both for Congress and Senate, but it can easily go away. President Obama can not do it alone, Republicans has proven that they’re party first, policy last or none at all.

There’s so much you can do politically that would enable you to enjoy greater majorities, but you’ve began to make yourself out to be a Republican Lite. What significant policy has the GOP introduced since 01/20/09? When you think of Republicans, you think No. When you describe the image of a Republican you are left with one image. Why do you, Democrats seek the same?

The way you will be elected is by your works, not schemes or how hard, cunning, quick or slick you responded to the political darts some Republicans threw at you. Do what you’re supposed to do and let us deal with Republicans and partisan attacks. Why must you stoop to the level of your opposition? Instead use there attack as an opportunity or leverage to raise the issue and discussion to where it should be. You owe it to those who voted for you and those who didn’t or couldn’t.

You have a majority. STOP ALLOWING REPUBLICANS TO DICTATE TO YOU AS IF THEY WERE THE MAJORITY, because they will eventually become the majority. Reconcile your mind and use reconciliation if you must, if it accomplishes the will of the people. DO SOMETHING OR GET OUT.

There’s a new Democrat emerging and they are getting restless. There vastly different the Republicans Tea Party folks, because they are not afraid of doing what must be done. I am only warning you to get up off your ass and kick the Republican’s ass with the majorities you still enjoy.

We understand that it was Republicans who took a surplus that was left by Bill Clinton and under Republican controlled White House; House & Senate until November 2006 lead us to where we are today. This is why you, Democrats were elected. This doesn’t mean that Republicans will ever acknowledge or ever be accountable for what was clearly caused by a conservative agenda. We can not focus or concern ourselves with them. Let them scream, protest and posture; you do the work of the people and let the people take care of the Republicans.

I don’t know how else to convey this to you. Running for political office wouldn’t make much of a difference, because I would then be a voice on the inside and subject to silencing by leadership and party elders. But as a Democrat who is not afraid of Republicans or bound by Democrats who act as if they were Republicans, I am telling you to wake up. It’s past time for you to be at work. Get Moving or Move Out Of The Way.

Political Games: Red Team vs. Blue Team

So what does the win in Massachusetts for Scott Brown really mean?

Personally, as a Democrat I’m not all that upset over this. I do find it funny to listen to Republicans spin & proclamations, but I understand that this was a good night for them. So I’m not going to do the Republican thing and offer sorrow grapes, complain or be a sore loser. Congratulations, Senator-Elect Brown on winning this special election.

But watch out for the… oooh… mascot.

I may be critical of the GOP and what it represents, but I do try to be fair, honest, sincere and considerate, even when many Conservatives/Republicans refuse to do the same. The reason is because I know who I am, both personally and politically. But I do want Democrats and Republicans to listen intently to what I have to say about what this win really means.

I begin with asking a question of Republicans, especially those who supported John McCain in 2008. It is his comments that brought me to look at this win a bit more closely.

“…Massachusetts has spoken for the country…”

John isn’t that kind of much for an election. Yes, that’s typical Republicans spin. What can you do about it? Perhaps I can say New York has spoken for the country back in November.

Come on now, let’s get serious here. I know you’re happy, but seriously dude have you looked at the scoreboard lately? I hate to inform you of this, but you’re still losing.

Now don’t get me wrong, that was a good play you just ran, but that’s just a payback lick for us taking the 23rd Congressional Seat a few months ago in New York from you. Good block, now let’s get back to the line of scrimmage.

Here’s another way for Republicans & Democrats to think about what this win really means.

It’s the 3rd Quarter and the blue team has been stomping the red team up and down the field for the majority of the game. The red team’s fans are complaining to the refs about any and every call on each play. The blue team is talking trash and just sitting back having fun. They’re not worried at all, because the quarter back is the combination of Drew Brees & Payton Manning wrapped up in Donovan McNabb’s body. The blue team got so cocky that started to get sloppy and put their 2nd string in the game, but she fumbles the ball and the guy on the red team picked up the ball and ran it in for their first touch down of the game.

Now what do you think the reaction of the red team’s fans are going to be?

So the blue team fans are upset and blaming the quarterback, the offensive line, etc, but themselves. So who is going to be the one to tell the blue team that it’s alright and you can still win the ‘Clinic’ Bowl? Stop trippin’ Democrats and pay attention. You still have the rest of this quarter and the 4th quarter to play. Now is not the time to worry about one play.

Democrats, I hope this wakes you up. Shake it off, get back to the line of scrimmage (Washington DC) and let’s win this game. Al’ight.

Seriously, Tony Romo is their quarterback. (I’m sorry, just playing. The Dallas Cowboys is a fine team. They just got stomped last week.)

Quick Message to Democrats

Originally, I had some harsh words for the Democratic Party and my fellow Democrats. After pushing it back a month I had to change it slightly because I’m finding it more important to urge the Democratic Party and my fellow Democrats to simply disregard the GOP and many Republicans, because many (not all) have simply choosen to oppose anything and everything, regardless of its validity.

It’s a pure waste of time to even consider what many of them have to say, because they continue to show us the only things they are offering is hate, noise, disrespect and no solutions. Their answer to everything is No. You have not heard one realistic alternative. Republican Reform is to do nothing. So I ask Democrats to do what we put you there to do. Forget the GOP, because they have forgotten what they were elected to do.

Democrats, it is not up to you to do what needs to be done. It’s up to you to lead and stop following every wind of ridiculous opposition that’s thrown in your way. Do What You’re Suppose To Do and don’t worry about the rest. It is the Democrats who were overwhelmingly elected in 2006 and 2008, not Republicans. So my fellow Democrats, IGNORE THEM. The few who has not been pushed out of their own party for being logical and demonstrating common sense will show themselves to be the good Republicans who may disagree with some things, but are willing to work together to do what’s best for all. The right-wing extremist and friends will only insult and complain, but offer no solutions. Disregard them, because they are not worth your time.

Democrats, you need to speak out and stand up for what’s fair and equal or prepare to go home. Have a back bone and do the right thing. If it’s healthcare reform with a public OPTION, not public mandatory, OPITON, then do it. If it’s immigration reform, then let’s do it. You can’t expect the faithless to demonstrate faith on anything you do, that’s why you should have faith in yourself and try to fix what 8 years of Republicans in the White House, 6 years of Republicans in control of the Congress messed up. They will try, but they can’t dispute it with honesty. Surplus to Defecit, Peace to two Wars.

Democrats, Do What You Were Elected To Do and __________ the Republican Party we see today or go home.

Do Something Before It’s Too Late

One of the most scariest images is an ideologically confused, unsocialized person with a gun in one hand and the Bible and Constitution in the other. What is more scary are the people who enables them.

For weeks I’ve been writing about race, rage, religion and the right. Some has attributed all of this to one bloggers obsession with race and republicans. And your assumption would be wrong. Many people who are silent on these issues are so because they either sees the truth in what has been illustrated and/or they’re simply uncomfortable speaking with authority about any of these subjects.

As I’ve illustrated last week is that it’s not always about race, it’s not always republicans, but it is about race and the role republicans are playing in the rage against this President. Many choose not to accept the reality of that truth, but what other logical conclusion can you draw if it isn’t about race? Politics is just the proxy, not the problem.

I give up on the realistic relevance of the Republican Party these days. It doesn’t want anyone who will question its authority. It doesn’t want anyone who will demand discussion. It doesn’t want anyone who is progressive, moderate, Black, Latino, Muslim, Young or even female. If you’re White, Male and Southern you’re welcomed. As a southerner I know that’s not a fair assessment, but many polls are trending in that direction when it comes to the GOP. It’s trending higher to those groups. The Democratic Party is not infallible, but at least I’m welcomed.

The fringes of society, whether it is the Birthers, the Deathers, the outrageous 2nd Amendment folks and the Racists they are not ruining the GOP, they have ruined the GOP. Who’s talking about bringing guns, Hitler, Nazis and the socialists. It’s not all Republicans, but it is a Republican problem and an American issue.

I’m surprised about the silence of those Republicans who has previous criticized me on various issues. What is worse is the timid tendencies of Democrats confronting them. It’s not all Republicans, it’s not all Democrats, but when will we finally have a Conservative who will talk down the paranoia of Republicans to Republicans? When will we finally have Democrats speak critically towards the timidness of the Democrats to Democrats?

I have restrained myself from saying this for many months, but I simply give up any possibility of having a reasonable conversation with most Republicans on many of these issues. I will continue to push Democrats to speak up, but their time is coming too if they don’t start doing what needs to be done.

Comment, criticize if you please. I give up. Let the M.F. Burn. (Reference to a previous post)

If what happened in November of 1963, February of 1965 or April of 1968 happens in today I will be sad, but I would feel sorry for those who helped caused it, because the blood would be on their hands. The outrage of the right could not match the rage that would come from the left and in the unexpected corners of society. I don’t want any of this to happen and urge people to do something more than nod in agreement or disagreement, do something before something happens. Before it’s too late.

It was he who said that “the work goes on, the cause endures, the hope still lives and the dream shall never die.” So it remains true that I must say something in remembrance of Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) in this time of mourning for his family, friends, constituents and those who have been inspired by him throughout his long public career.

Born in 1932 to one of the most wealthiest and influential families in America, Sen. Ted Kennedy spoke for “the least of these” and a true advocate for the poor and downtrodden.

Just as Strom Thurmond and Ronald Reagan are revered among republicans for their adherence to conservative values, so is Ted Kennedy for his observance to liberal principles while often crossing the partisan and ideological divide to help enact important legislation across a broad spectrum of social policy. Although he was a leading spokesman for liberal issues and a favorite target of conservative fund-raising appeals and paper political patriots, he had the ability to find Republican allies to get bills passed; a miracle all of its own.

Sen. Kennedy leaves a strong and positive legacy on legislation concerning civil rights, health care, education, voting rights and labor. More than just a senator from Massachusetts, he was a presence of his own. Through the triumphs and tragedies that have found its way to Ted Kennedy few will be able to say with honesty that Sen. Kennedy wasn’t a true “lion”.

So as we will hear some Republicans and Conservatives continue their attacks on Sen. Kennedy during this time I ask that you not participate. It is these who will be left behind. “We know the future will outlast all of us, but I believe all of us will live on the future we make.” – Ted Kennedy

As Democrats now have more reason to pass legitimate reform for healthcare as Sen. Kennedy would have it, I admire Sen. Kennedy for going out like a lion.

Where the Bloody Trail Leads

I’ve been writing about the sum of when you add guns, ignorance, intolerance, paranoia and hate to any political discussion for awhile on this blog. Periodically for almost a year, but more frequently within the past few weeks the topic of discussion has been illustrations of hate, fear, paranoia and the unspoken element of violence.

We should not forget the historical and political parallels that have been kindled in the American political discussions today.

We can learn from history how past generations thought and acted, how they responded to the demands of their time and how they solved their problems. We can learn by analogy, not by example, for our circumstances will always be different than theirs were. The main thing history can teach us is that human actions have consequences and that certain choices, once made, cannot be undone. They foreclose the possibility of making other choices and thus they determine future events.” -  Gerda Lerner
Perhaps some will heed the warnings of where the bloody political trail we find ourselves on tends to leads.

Our own national history serves as a reminder of the results of the things we find so many subscribing to in political debates today. The tragedies we’ve experienced is the flag that flies higher to those who proclaim patriotism as their political proxy, because it is the unforgettable reminder of what unchecked hatred, distorted information and fear can lead to.

Where does the bloody trail lead?
I look forward to the day when We the People can fulfill the prophecy of the rest of the sentence, because we have yet obtained the constitution to unite the state of America.

If “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America” then there should be no thought of such a distinct separateness of the classes, cultures, races, religion, sexuality and even political ideology.

When the tree of liberty becomes stale by the distortion of corporate tyrants, political cooperatives and ideologues then it’s time to cut down that tree or get rid of the infected branches that is killing it.

The problem is not the so-called American dream; a dream where one can realize the essence of equality, opportunity and freedom for all. The problem is the people have become too afraid to dare dream it. We’re too concerned with what someone else will say or think.

The dream has become a nightmare for so many who are not privileged or have been judged by the color of their skin, sexual, religious or political preferences and educational or economic status. The problem is not the American dream or those who continue to dream it, but those who have worked diligently to make it damn near impossible to realize.

Politics of Fear

The use of intimidation as a political tactic is nothing new. More often it is some group who proclaims a right or liberty is being threatened and feel they must defend it. Although this very well may be a political proxy lets pretend that’s the real reason why ‘certain people’ appear to be more prone to such ideology and practice. I believe it’s more of a sign of political weakness and instability with the individual or group than it is with government.

Politicians in both major political parties are too busy playing politics instead of We the People.

Republicans using fear and hate to drum up support. There too busy trying to make White people afraid of the Black guy in the White House, the Latina Woman in the Court House, the Immigrant who has worked hard to afford the overpriced house in your neighborhood and keeping the gay couple out of the Lord’s house. While making you believe they’re for you while they’re sleeping with the banker’s wife who’s about to foreclose on your house. The Republican Party is not what it use to be and is basically a Conservative Citizens Council. (You need to look up what the Conservative Citizens Council is or just read my previous post.)

Democrats are not fairing to be much different these days. Don’t get too comfortable with your majority. Especially when you are slow to show your back bone. Stop being so lilly livered and seeking the approval of those who will never approve of anything you dare to do. You are there for a reason. It’s best for you to get to work or get replaced by the ones who’s working against you. Stop concerning yourself with what the Republicans are doing, saying or thinking. The best thing that you or they can do is do what you were elected to do and stop worrying about the next election.

Do what you’re suppose to do and don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. This is as elementary as the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper. Why can’t politicians just do what they’re suppose to do instead of seeking to score political points and scare people half to death with the fear of Death Panels, Torture, War and rumors of war?

Where the trail may end
To all those who may read this who does not like President Obama and seek to do harm to him and/or anyone he’s closely connected to; I urge you to reconsider your ways. Do not under estimate the abilities of this President and the effectiveness of the security of those responsible to protecting him.

I also urge you to reconsider, because the alternative to all of these well capable people and organizations in place you should not under estimate a silent contingencies of people who will erupt in retaliation beyond measure and it would be unforeseen. These people are not distinctly violent, but I can see little reason why they wouldn’t react with extreme violence towards any person who ‘appears’ to be affiliated with any individual or group who commits harm to this President. The riots that followed various traumatic events during the 1960’s in the U.S. would be minimal in comparison.

I will not assume that you are very reasonable or tolerant. In fact I believe you to be uncivilized and unsocialized group of unintelligent scared people. That’s the reason why you resort to intimidation, threats and violence. It’s a proxy of the hate you bestow upon anyone you do not understand or you psychologically concluded is intellectually more talented and developed than you. It’s not always about race, but far too often race finds its place. Your misplaced, misguided and well uninformed anger and revealing cultural, political, intellectual and civil unawareness will ultimately undermined you. Reconsider your ways, before it’s too late. You never know where the bloody trail may lead.

WHAT! It was like saying Nigger to a Puerto Rican

I want to make a quick statement, before discussing U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney’s ‘slip of the tongue’ a few days ago. My reasons are due to comments submitted over the past few weeks and months from individuals who accused me of something I passionately fight against; biases, discrimination, racism and prejudices.

Accuse me of a bias towards beautiful women. Accuse me of a bias towards cute baby girls. I’m guilty as charged. If I’m aware of something or made aware of it and feel its cause for me to say something about it, I will. I don’t claim that Republicans are eternally wrong or Democrats are forever right. I honestly strive to be fair and consider others. Politically I may align on the side of Democrats more often than Republicans, but it doesn’t mean I do not consider Republicans or agree or defend them when unfairly attacked.

Now onto Rep. Carolyn Maloney’s ‘slip of the tongue’. Please make note, this is how you not launch your bid for Senate.

While relying on a telephone conversation Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) used the opportunity to gain some political points by criticizing her fellow White Female Democrat and soon-to-be Senate opponent Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). Rep. Maloney said, “I got a call from someone from Puerto Rico who said Sen. Gillibrand went to Puerto Rico and came out for English-Only.” Now to some that’s not offensive, but English-Only Amendments says something all together different to our fellow citizens that English is their 2nd language. But that’s the nice part of the conversation. She continues to say, “It was like saying Nigger to a Puerto Rican.”

:O Now close your mouth for a moment. I need to talk to the congresswoman for a moment.

Carolyn… Come on now. Do you realize what you’ve just said? Did you ask a Puerto Rican? Did you ask anyone that English is a 2nd language for them to see how they would view it? No, No, No. You didn’t. You just saw the opportunity to make a political gain because you were speaking in the comfort of being around all White people. You made the mistake of assuming Whites are racist when you think about it, because you didn’t see an issue with saying Nigger.

If there was one Black person in the room I bet you wouldn’t have said it. How can I make such an assumption? Because you wouldn’t have to apologize or even say “I apologize for having repeated a word I find disgusting.”

If you truly find the word to be disgusting you wouldn’t even say it in any company. If so, you would have clearly made a statement before or after repeating what you’ve said.

I’m not going to beat up on you for making the mistake, because we can go through instances where Black, Latino, Asian, Native and/or Jewish Americans have made racially tinged statements in the comfort of their own. It’s wrong any way you slice it. If you disagree with the word or the meaning of it, then don’t use it. If you’re using it to make a point, then pay attention to the context of your words and delivery, so it will not be misunderstood.

I really believe politicians should include a cultural advisor to their team of political advisors. Seriously, this stuff can be easily avoided with more than a sensitivity training class, but someone to help you navigate through the cultural political obstacles. Why do you think the Republican Party as a whole now has such a difficult time attracting anyone who isn’t a White male? Of course you have some fine Black, Latino and Asian American Republicans, but look at the party as a whole and who do you see? The last campaign didn’t help at all, but I’m the racist. The same goes for Democrats. Think about what you’re saying or what your words may suggest to someone not like you.

Black people everything isn’t about race. Yes, sometimes it is, but how do you best get your point across, but by demonstrating it. There is justification for mistrust, but if we continue to not trust each other on the notion of race then we will never progress and we will be just as bad as those we mistrust, because we are essentially reciprocating the mistrust back. An eye for an eye leaves both of us blind. I think you can see what I’m suggesting.

The same is true for White people. My goodness, think about what you’re doing or how you may alter your actions when around someone of another race. That’s easily detectable, although they may not say anything. Continue to be who you are; just be more aware of how others respond to you. You may not be racist or hold any biases based on ethnicity, but the things you may say unintentionally out of the comfort and security of not having to be viewed by the prism of race first is perceived very differently to someone who does.

We Think Just Like Everybody Else

Manny Miranda, the chairman of the Third Branch Conference and the author of a letter that has asked Senate Republicans to consider a “Democratic filibuster” against Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, just spoke at the Heritage Foundation luncheon for conservative bloggers.

Hispanic polls, Hispanic surveys, indicate that Hispanics think just like everyone else. We’re not like African-Americans. We think just like everybody else. When I was on the leader’s staff, someone called me once and asked me: ‘What’s Senator Frist’s Hispanic agenda?’ I said, ‘low taxes, better education, more jobs … what are you talking about?’ And that’s how Hispanics are. This is an opportunity to educate them on all of our issues and they will resonate in the way that they resonate with everyone else.– Manny Miranda

OH REALLY. And you wonder why… You know what’s the use. Simply Amazing.

Now I would personally like to hear Republicans, especially Black Republicans thoughts about this one.

You tell my Latino and Hispanic friends, “We like you. You’re not like those African-Americans over there” Oh we’re not meaning you Michael Steele, Juan Williams, Secretary Rice, Gen. Powell and the list of other accomplished or notable Black Republicans.

Where are the people who are so quick to tell me that the Republican Party is the party of Emancipation, the party of Lincoln? Where’s the emancipation of rhetoric?

Now before you get on your spill how the Democrats have done this or that, I want to give you the opportunity to explain this statement by your fellow Republican.

For months I’ve consistently warned people against this type of thinking over and over and over again, but I’m the crazy one and don’t know what I’m talking about? I have something against the GOP, but I would love to hear how you answer for this type of language. What I have against the GOP is the same that I have against the DNC and any other organization or individual who adopts this sort of ideology.

Listen to what he’s saying. “Hispanics think like everyone else. We’re not like African-Americans.” So how would you know how Black people think if your only experience with Blacks is the few that work near you or you see when you’re out? That’s right; one of your best friends is Black. I forgot that’s excuses it.

Next point, “We’re not like African-Americans.” What the Hell is that suppose to mean? Better question, what does that statement say about the person who said it? Once again, this is just another example of someone with limited social experience with Blacks. Seriously, if you stop looking down at people and start looking at people as equal, just maybe you’ll recognize that not all Black people think alike. I would love to have a conversation with him. But why not have a conversation with the few Black Republicans left. This really makes them feel welcomed and proud to be a Republican.

As a Democrat who is Black I am confident and secure enough with who I am and what I believe to clearly understand and recognize that there are some very intelligent people who can school you on the eclectic culture that is labeled Black or African-American and be Republican at the same time. I personally admire Joseph Watkins, J.C. Watts and Colin Powell to name a few notables. Get out of your segregated way of thinking. Then you wouldn’t make DUMB ASS COMMENTS like this.

What the Hell am I suppose to think?

This is the problem I keep hammering away at, despite the negative criticism, confusion and reluctance of honesty some have towards open discussion on the issue of race relations. You have further alienation of a party who already has a serious problem recruiting anyone who isn’t a White Male. Keep talking like this and see what happens to the credibility of your arguments to recruit any minority.

White Men or people are not the problem; it’s the thinking as if White men or people in general are the standard upon which we all should be measured upon. It’s the false sense of security of believing one is superior or inferior. The world is made up of more people than one race. You, me, we are just another part of the collective value of man. The days of acting, assuming and accepting White Men as the standard of measurement for the world is over.

While I’m at it I should just go there and say it.

Black people quit accepting and/or subscribing to any suggestion that you’re less than anyone else. You are just as valuable as anyone else. Start acting like it. When we see racism or discrimination we tend to address it. We must all be diligent in continuing this when we see it in our own community, family, and friends or even within ourselves. This means stop discriminating and blaming White people or anyone else for our own mistakes, failures or problems. Not all of the obstructions that prevent us from success as rapidly as someone else is caused by someone else. We can do, because it’s been done. I know it isn’t always fair or equal, but look at how far we’ve come. There’s not excuse to turn around now. We just can’t give up.

To my Hispanic and Latino family, you are a vital part of this community as anyone else. The obstacles you’re facing today are the same Blacks faced and in some cases still do. We walk this journey together. When some seek to divide us by their rhetoric and political posturing the reality is that we are essentially in the same boat. We’ve been friends & neighbors for decades upon decades and the community continues to made tremendous contributions to our society. It’s going to take you, me and many others to break the psychological chains ignorance, hate and discrimination that continue to bind so many people in terms of race today. But it can be done.

To my Gay and Lesbian friends, keep on. I understand your frustration. The fight for equality didn’t end on a Memphis motel balcony in 1968, but only intensified. Continue to fight for what’s right, fair, equal and just. Through propositions, resolutions and conversation with those who choose to embrace discrimination and/or refuse to reconcile the religion of love against the religions of man, I just urge you to keep on.

Equality is not going to be reached if we continue to segregate ourselves. Segregation even in terms of sexual preference. How can we live in a land half slave and half free. Slave as in terms of a mentality that binds us to an ideology, culture or religion of discrimination.
I can go back to the Lincoln-Douglass Debates for context to this problem we continue to have and take it all the way to another speech made by a politician in Philadelphia during March 2008. How else can you say it? How long will we hear people like Mr. Miranda make such statements?

The same Republican Party that Mr. Lincoln was apart of is not the same party it has morphed into today. The Democratic Party of Lincoln’s day was loosely what we see elements of today in the GOP. The GOP is not inherently evil or exclusionist, but they have lost their way in terms of being racially inclusive or tolerant. What happen?

The Democrats are a little better, but as we can reference a year ago, far from perfect. We too need to work with much more diligence to involve more people of color into the inner workings and decision making. We may have successfully won the argument today, but there’s always tomorrow.

What many do not understand about Blacks, Hispanics, Lesbians, Asians, Whites and Muslims are their similarities.

We may have different life experiences, but I can guarantee that we have something in common. Open yourself to diversity. Open your mind to the inclusive ways of thinking. Consider others not like yourself and their life experiences, before judging them by your standards. Most importantly, we must stop defeating ourselves. I’m just asking you to take the opportunity to know someone better and honestly. You are not superior and nor am I or the next person reading this inferior. You may be surprised with the prejudice you didn’t realize you held and recognize the value of diverse experiences.

Now I’ve grown accustom to always having someone misunderstanding this simple message. So I break it down to an easy sentence for those few. “Understand, respect, consider and appreciation people.”

“We’re not like African-Americans. We think just like everybody else” Amazing. Let’s try considering everybody.

Arlen Specter Blames Jack Kemp’s Death on GOP

BOB SCHIEFFER: Let me talk to you about a little politics here, while we’re–while we’re at it. I want to ask you about the Republican Party. But let me also ask you this. A lot of people, I would assume, voted for you in your last Senate race because you were a Republican. Do you feel in any way that you let them down or that you had some obligation to them to switch now? It’s one thing to say, you know, you’ve come up to the election and say I want to announce I’m going to run as a Republican, I mean, run as a Democrat the next time out, but to just switch parties in midstream, does that–does that bother you, Senator?

SENATOR ARLEN SPECTER: Well, I was sorry to disappoint many people. Frankly, I was disappointed that the Republican Party didn’t want me as their candidate. But as a matter of principle, I’m becoming much more comfortable with the Democrats’ approach.
And one of the items that I’m working on, Bob, is funding for medical research. I’ve been the spear carrier to increase medical research. And I’ve even established a Web site, Specterforthecure.com, to try to get people to put more pressure on Congress to join me in getting more funding. This medical research has been a reawakening–the ten billion dollars. We were about to lose a whole generation of scientists. And now they’re enthused.

There are fifteen thousand applications to be granted. If we had pursued what President Nixon declared in 1970 as the war on cancer, we would have cured many strains. I think Jack Kemp would be alive today. And that research has saved or prolonged many lives, including mine.

Now, as the New York Times pointed out in a column today, when you talk about life and death and medical research, that’s a much more major consideration on what I can do, continuing in the Senate, contrasted with which party I belong to.

MY COMMENTS: Now I’m not a fan of the Republican Party, but come on Arlen, Cancer. Listen, I know you’re new to the party, but we try not to play as dirty as you may be use to. The GOP is a lot of things, but I don’t know if I can lay the blame for one of their own’s death on them. Jack Kemp was one of the few Republicans I actually liked. Yes, he was a moderate, so he probably would fit into the GOP of today, but I did respect him for his views and willingness to work with Democrats on various issues. I wish his family well.

Arlen, we got to talk. Let me holla at ya for a second.

Shrinking Ideology

The political environment that has made it inhospitable for a moderate Republican in Pennsylvania is a microcosm of a deeper, more pervasive problem that places our party in jeopardy nationwide. There is no plausible scenario under which Republicans can grow into a majority while shrinking our ideological confines and continuing to retract into a regional party.” - Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME)

Well I guess it had to come from a Republican for Republicans to hear the message I’ve been trying to convey for months now. I thank the Republican Senator from Maine. Senator, we’re like Motel 6, I’ll leave the light on for you. Just come on in, you are welcomed.

Newt had this to say… “It clarifies the two parties. In the long run it may actually change the whole dynamic of 2010 and 2012.– Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich

Well Newt, for once I agree with you. It does help clarify the two parties, we may be crazy at times, but at least we’re not deranged. Keep it up and 2010 will be even worse than 2006. I will run for political office if you run Joe the Plumber.

So What’s Next?

When Arlen Spector can publicly say that he’s found himself increasingly at odds with the Republican philosophy and more inline with the Democratic philosophy you have to wonder what shift or how much of a shift within the Republican party has occurred to push the moderates out?

This is what I’ve been warning Republicans about in multiple posts since September 2008. Although it’s just my opinion and I am not a Republican, but as a socio-political observer and critic I believe the Moderate Republicans are the conscience of the party. They are the ones who inject common sense and rationale into the ideology, to push them away like you’re doing is like ignoring what your conscience is telling you.

So what’s next? Should we look for Republican Governors to switch parties, I think Charlie Crist would make a good Conservative Democrat and Arnold is married to a Kennedy, so we can use a Terminator. Who should we be making space for? I can think of only two other Moderate Republican Senators that would provide a spirited debate within the Democratic Caucus. We still have room.

When the party asks too much what are you to do? Should you resign your morals, convictions or objections and follow the party line? Should you assert your independence and adherence to the needs and desires of who you are to represent? I guess it depends on the measure of value of the issue, but I would hope you would follow the later more often than not.

Some want to constrain a person to one opinion and leave no room for debate or consideration. Opposition is good, because it keeps you sharp. Those who are honest and respectable in their opposition are few and often ridiculed for their independence or consensus nature. Consider President Obama and his multiple attempts to seek bipartisanship. His opposition called him weak; some of his supporters are suspicious, because we are reluctant to consider the position of our opposition as if it can never be true.

So what’s the problem?

Allow me to offer my analysis to this question. Perhaps the Republican Party can finally call themselves “Dixiecrats” now, since they have virtually modified themselves into what was known as Dixiecrats long ago. Then the brilliant incorporation of what is known as the “Religious Right” was the confusion of God and the Government. So instead of using God in your damning of America you have essentially damned the party, because you confused God and Government. Some of you may know what I’m talking about.

Now Democrats I suggest that we do not get too happy with the Specter prospects. I respect Sen. Specter, but just like our own defectors like Zell Miller or even someone whom I’m still suspicious of to this day, Joe Lieberman, let’s not get too confident. Welcome Bro. Arlen, but proceed with caution.

Although Republicans probably wouldn’t be gracious to us if this was reversed, let us not engage them in the game of tic-for-tat politics. They may be several strokes down, but we still got work to do ourselves if we’re going to win this tournament. Just because we’re on the leaderboard doesn’t mean we’re going to win the tournament. Mr. Arlen Specter I welcome you to the Democratic Party, but you understand if we proceed with caution.

As many Republicans are publicly fuming over this latest slap in the face with the expected spin, I just wonder if any have seriously listened and considered the Senator’s message in his statement. It’s more than just an ambition to hold on to a seat, listen to what he’s telling you before you start calling him names and degrading his decision.

I know you’re mad and things aren’t looking so good right now. The President is Black, very smart or ‘uppity’ as some may say privately, popular or likable, and the whole torture thing comes out and you’re scrambling for political cover, it’s hard out here for a Republican. Only 21% of the country even want to be seen with you and that 21% are mostly the fringe group of the party, Texas talking about leaving the union, but request federal assistance. You’re viewed as the Party of No, just do a Google search and see what you come up with. Rush Limbaugh takes over the party, then Newt Gingrich, then Dick Cheney and the lone Black guy, Michael Stelle t-bagging Rush on-air to satisfy the base, the growing fringe group that’s becoming. You come out with a plan with no numbers, then follow it up with stuff proven by economist to be ill fated, more and more Moderate Republicans are wisely resisting the extremism of the party. Then Sen. Arlen Spector decides to switch parties. Giving the Democrats 60 votes, oooo that had to of hurt. If you think Sen. Spector is the only one to leave I say be careful, make a change now.

I think you can do change. Yes You Can.

Seeking a Message

Rhetorically, Republicans are having a very hard time finding something that raises the consciousness of the average voter. We have so overused the word ‘socialism’ that it no longer has the negative connotation it had 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago. Now you’re upset with President Obama for a cutting the taxes for every American taxpayer who makes under $250,000.00 a year and restoring the tax rates of those who make $250,001.00 or more a year to the level they were during President Clinton’s Administration during the 90’s. Now you’re mocking President Obama for cutting government spending. What are you really upset about, because it isn’t taxes or spending. That argument is more out of date than the whole socialist, fascist, liberal name calling you like to do.

I can think of one obvious reason and show proof of it, but I’m not going to insinuate or accuse you of not having the will to think beyond the surface. So I ask, what’s the real problem?

While you’re debating your conscience allow me to take a brief moment to offer the definitions of the terms you’re using in public.

Socialist – (1) one who advocates any of various economic and political theories of collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods (2) a system of society or group living in which there is no private property (3) a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state (4) a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done.

Fascist – (1) a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition. (2) a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control.

Liberal(1) one who is befitting of a man of free birth (2) marked by generosity (3) given or provided in a generous and openhanded way. (4) Considerate, warmhearted readiness to give more than size or importance of the gift.

Communist – (1) one who advocates a theory of the elimination of private property (2) a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed.

Marxist – (1) the political, economic, and social principles and policies advocated by Marx. (2) a theory and practice of socialism including the labor theory of value, dialectical materialism, the class struggle, and dictatorship of the proletariat until the establishment of a classless society.

All of these things don’t amount to President Obama with the exception of Liberal. I understand that many Republicans have some sort of aversion towards liberalism, as if being considerate, generous and open-minded is a bad thing, but I guess it’s proved by the actions of some and how liberally they throw out words they don’t fully understand as a form of insult. If you want to talk about words, let’s be open about the words.

Now I’m not sure what you plan on calling President Obama next or if you will begin to use the words you say in the comfort of like-minded friends or the privacy of home in public, but I seriously doubt that any of you who calls Democrats and President Obama these names have the courage or honesty to do so.

Dislike whomever you please; I support your right to do so. But when you dislike virtually anything and everything a person does, says or gestures you look petty and childish.

You criticize the President during the G20 Summit, but had nothing to say about his diplomacy, resolution and consensus abilities with Russia and other leaders, just criticism. You criticize the President for shaking the hand of Hugo Chavez. You criticize the President for speaking to Iran with respect. You criticize the President for speaking to Cuba diplomatically. I’m just waiting for you to start crying for no reason next. What is the problem?

Obviously you didn’t understand the principles of diplomacy after the indoctrination of George Bush. You see, when you are nice to people they generally are nice back. When they are not, then you can not be blamed for not trying.

Let me offer an example.

§ I do my best to respond to the negative comments that are filled with racial slurs and curse words respectfully. I’m trying to send you a message in a message.

§ I extend my open hand in friendship towards you despite our past or present differences I am making a gesture that I come in peace. If you push me away or greet me with hatred, then you are the one not seeking peace or resolution.

You have a ‘leader’ of the party, what the members have to decide is if that leader is the one elected, Michael Steele or one self-selected like Newt, Rush or Eric Cantor. Either way they will have to unify an already lost message.

As a Democrat I’ve repeatedly suggested a moderate who has common sense and is reasonable. Look to that state executive in Florida or the one in California. I urge you to steer clear from the one in Alaska, Louisiana or South Carolina, they’re going to lead you in the wrong direction. But what am I thinking, you’re not going to listen to me, I’m a liberal, a socialist, a Marxist, a communist and a fascist Democrat, what do I know. J
